Air City ended 12/10/07

Tuesday, December 11th, 2007

Air City, the Korean drama set in Incheon International Airport, has ended….and I’m quite disappointed.

It took me a few episodes to warm up to it but I really enjoyed it after that. I really liked the relationship between Kim Jisung and Han Dokyung.

They were both professionals who loved their jobs and most importantly, they were and acted like adults. If you’ve seen many Korean dramas, I think you’ll know what I mean.

Anyway, I really didn’t understand Kim Jisung’s hasty decision in the end. The next part is a spoiler for those that have not finished this series yet. Warning!!! Do not proceed if you don’t want to know!

So, Kim Jisung finds out that his ex-girlfriend has cancer, he breaks down and what does he do next?

Just hours prior to him finding out, on that same day, he had proposed to Han Dokyung and told his boss that he was not going to obey orders and go undercover in Moscow.

He forgets all that and goes off to training. Next thing we know, he’s leaving for Moscow and doesn’t even tell anyone.

What is the reasoning for his actions?!

Anyway, I found that a letdown. How can a professional, supposedly a CIA agent, (known as NIS in Korea, I guess - National Intelligent Service) act in this hasty, childish manner?

By the way, I think they should have casted a “bulkier” actor as Kim Jisung. He’s way too skinny for a CIA agent and some of the fighting scenes I found to be hilarious.

The series also did not tie up the loose-ends of Han Dokyung’s sister and Mr Min. There was a brief mention at the end but no conclusion.

It doesn’t have to be a happy ending to be a good series, I agree, but the ending just felt rushed and silly.

Dae Jo Young programming change

Saturday, December 8th, 2007

Yesterday, while watching Dae Jo Young, a notice came scrolling across the bottom of the screen.

Dae Jo Young will only be shown on Mondays and Tuesdays starting Dec 10th, 2007. What?! Why?!

No reason was given and no replacement series was annouced either.

So I went to the AZN site and there was a poster that said “36 new episodes added to the popular series” and that Dae Jo Young will be shown only on Mondays and Tuesdays starting next week.

I prodded the site a bit more and found that a series called “Love Truly” will be shown on Wed, Thurs and Friday starting next week…I think. AZN’s site is not very reliable so we’ll have to see what happens next week.

With 36 more episodes of Dae Jo Young and only shown twice a week, it’ll take another 18 weeks to complete the series!

argh….just when you think you’ll finally see some closure, it’s going to take another 4.5 months to know what happens in the end.

Dae Jo Young Episode 96

Wednesday, November 28th, 2007

Summary of Episode 96:

So the evil Shin Hong’s plan was to kill Dae Jo Young.

Dae Jo Young was passed out from drinking but Mimosa had the intuition that something was going on and he send Gulsabiwu and gang. They managed to prevent the assassins from killing Dae Jo Young.

Meanwhile Xue Rengui, Li Wen and gang are begging for mercy from the Emperor Wu Zetian. She refuses to see them even though they had been kneeling for 2 days.

She eventually agrees to see Xue Rengui who tells her that he knows how to beat Dae Jo Young and Li Kaigu. Divide and conquer! Make Dae Jo Young and Li Kaigu turn against each other.

While the Khitans have claimed Yingzhou for themselves and crowned their own king, Dae Jo Young had declared a new state yet.

Xue Rengui asked the Emperor to acknowledge Dae Jung Sang (seniority comes first) as a new leader. By doing so, the Khitans will probably be outraged as the Emperor has not acknowledged them yet.

This episode ended with the Emperor’s envoy visiting Dae Jung Sang and Dae Jo Young with the news and Dae Jo Young is about to kill the messenger.

Air City

Wednesday, November 28th, 2007

Air City is a new Korean drama being shown on AZN in the time slot right after Dae Jo Young. I actually didn’t know that a new series had started so I missed the 1st episode.

It is a modern drama which revolves around the Incheon International Airport. I think Koreans are very proud of their airport and every modern drama seems to have a scene at the airport.

Anyway, the series stars the “queen” of Korean drama, Choi Ji Woo, who was in the classic drama Winter Sonata.

It also stars several actors and actresses that I have seen in other series. I don’t really know their names though.

Dae Jo Young Episode 95

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007

Summary of Episode 94

Xue Rengui, Li Wen and the rest of the Tang generals fell for Dae Jo Young’s trick. They believed that Dae Jo Young and his men have retreated into Yingzhou’s fort.

So they attacked Yingzhou.

Little did they know that Dae Jo Young had Gulsabiwu, Geumlan, Heuk Sudol, Gaepilsamun all stationed at various points.

The Tang was surrounded and defeated.

Li Wen and Hong Pei begged Xue Rengui to disguise himself as a Khitan soldier so that he can escape. After much anguish, Xue Rengui reluctantly agreed.

As they made their escape through the mountains, they were attacked by Dae Jo Young who had foreseen that this was their only escape route.

Xue Rengui, Hong Pei, Li Wen, etc. then pretended to be dead.

Dae Jo Young instructed all his men to look through the bodies to make sure that Xue Rengui was dead. His father, Dae Jung Sang, eventually found Xue Rengui among the bodies.

Xue Rengui asked Dae Jung Sang to kill him and that he’d gladly die in the hands of Dae Jung Sang, a great warrior.

But Dae Jung Sang let him go!

While they celebrated their victory, Dae Jo Young and Mimosa asked that the Goguryeo refugees be released which was why they helped the Khitans in the first place.

Li Kaigu and his sidekick Shin Hong tried to prevent them from doing so, stating one lame excuse after another.

But the Khitan king overuled them and said that Dae Jo Young will have the refugees as promised.

Li Kaigu was furious. Shin Hong is planning some dirty trick again, which has yet to be revealed.

The king and Dae Jo Young got wasted and Geom and Dae Jo Young’s son was called to help him to his bed.

As they made their way to the guest palace, Dae Jo Young stumbled and Geom was there to catch him. So Geom and Dae Jo Young are in “each other’s arms” when Chulin walked out and saw them.

She strikes her “anxious” pose (hehee, she always look anxious, her one look) and it ended there.

If you’ve not been following this series, Geom is actually Chulin and Dae Jo Young’s son. Nobody knows this except Chulin, Li Kaigu and Gulsabiwu who was somewhere sworn to secrecy.

AZN TV has moved!

Friday, November 23rd, 2007

AZN tv disappeared today. Channel 69 was no longer in the menu. I frantically looked for it but it was no where to be found.
I thought I would not get to watch my Korean dramas anymore…horror of all horrors!

I then realized that I could look in my DVR scheduled recordings to see whether the dramas were still being recorded. It turns out that AZN tv is now on channel 240.

With that discovery, everything’s back to normal…;)

Grey’s Anatomy cutting in…

Friday, November 16th, 2007

Has anyone noticed that since this season started, Grey’s Anatomy has never ended on time? Yep, it has yet to end at 10.00pm this season. It’s been 10.01, 10.02 and even 10.07pm!

I have the Comcast DVR and it can only record 2 shows at once so when one show runs over, I can only record one show the next hour.

The 2 shows I want to record that starts at 10.00pm are ER and Without a Trace. But because of Grey’s unfair behavior, I have had to sacrifice the 1st few minutes of the other shows. It’s so frustrating.

Play fair, Grey’s!

AZN Tv messes up again!

Tuesday, November 13th, 2007

AZN Tv channel is showing a black screen tonight, saying it “will be available shortly” but it doesn’t!

This means I don’t get to watch Dae Jo Young tonight :( boo hoo…

Just a few weeks ago, instead of hearing the actors’ voices, we get what sounded like the local Comcast broadcast. It’s so annoying. Whoever works there should be fired!

Episode 82 - Dae Jo Young

Friday, November 9th, 2007

I thought it’d never happened but it finally did!

Episode 82: Dae Jo Young is FINALLY on his way to becoming a king. He has finally realized that he is capable of becoming a king, even without having royal blood.

Dae Jo Young is a Korean drama series that I’ve been following…faithfully. It’s on AZN Tv Mondays through Fridays at 6pm. It’s a looong series. It’s on 5 times a week, and it’s now Episode 82 which means that I’ve been watching it for over 16 weeks!

The synopsis given by AZN Tv about this series is “A dramatic series about a love triangle involving King Dae Jo Young”. That is simply hilarious since that barely even touches the surface of it.

It is more like a series that follows a man’s journey to becoming a king through many ups, downs and battles… in short.

In long, it covers how the Goguryeo kingdom, founded by Jumong (another great series that was shown before Dae Jo Young), fell to the Tang dynasty. There were many fierce battles and betrayals before that happened. Also before Goguryeo fell to the Tangs, a baby was born under a shooting star and was destined to be a king.

The kid grows up and it’s been one betrayal after another and one battle after another to save Goguryeo. Goguryeo finally falls, then it was one battle after another to revive Goguryeo.

And between those, there were plenty of good-ol-way-to-get-people-to-talk tortures.

Anyway, I knew that historically Dae Jo Young eventually founded his own country and became a king but I didn’t think that it would take 82 episodes to actually get the process started!

Amazing Race Season 12 starts tonight!

Sunday, November 4th, 2007

Just realized that the season premier of Amazing Race Season 12 is tonight, Sunday Nov 4th at 8pm PST/EST.

I used to be a big fan of Amazing Race coz I love to travel and love to see all those countries that the teams get to visit.

Then, there was the horrible season with the family, what were they thinking? I boycotted that whole season after watching 1 or 2 episodes.

Soon after that, they had the All-Stars season which I couldn’t watch as well. I just could not watch Rob and Amber again.

Anyway, I really hope this new season will be like the old ones…no family, no previous contestants, please!
